McGuire couldn’t be prouder as new Thackley era starts with a well earned draw

The Mike Garrod/Pat McGuire era at Toolstation NCEL Premier Division’s eighteenth-placed club  Thackley got under way with a fine 1-1 draw at Dennyfield  against one of the Division’s form clubs, eighth-placed Penistone Church-and Joint Manager Pat McGuire emphasised that he and his colleagues had hardly had the time to prepare meticulously for the game, writes Colin Muncie.

After a goalless first half in front of a crowd of 140, Luke Robinson put the home side ahead on 47 minutes. However, Jordan Coduri struck on 52 to preserve Church’s excellent run of form.

Pat told the Bootiful Game “I, Mike and Joe (Brown, Coach) couldn’t be prouder of all the lads today. We only really had our team talk before the game to discuss our shape and tactics for the game- and the lads responded superbly. Some lads played out of position, some were asked to do specific jobs, and to a man everyone stuck at their task. Penistone are a well organised side and it was a good battle in difficult conditions, and the game could have been nicked by either team but a draw was a fair result”.

There’s a long road ahead and lots of work to be done” Pat added “but if the lads continue to show that desire, work ethic and togetherness, then we’ll start pushing towards where we want to be”.
