Clayton: Things are getting serious as the finishing line is starting to get a little closer every game

Two points clear-with two games in hand- at the top of NCEL Toolstation Division One, Knaresborough Town welcome thirteenth-placed Swallownest to Manse Lane at the weekend-and Knaresborough Assistant Manager Paul Clayton knows that his side will have to mind the knitting as their campaign heads into what’s commonly known as the “business” end, writes Colin Muncie.

Paul told the Bootiful Game “We are into the last third of the season now, so things are getting serious as the finishing line is starting to get a little closer every game. The players have been outstanding so far and we have to keep that level up for the remaining fifteen games if we want to keep in the mix for promotion. The League is very difficult and all the teams in the top half will still fancy their chances of going up, so it should be an exciting three  months”.

Paul is expecting Saturday’s visitors to provide a demanding examination of Knaresborough’s promotion credentials ” We’re back at home Saturday after a difficult game against EYC” ,he said.”Swallownest are one of the form sides in the league at the moment and have acquitted themselves well in their first season at this level. We had a difficult game at their place early in the season ( a late come-from behind 2-1 win at Rotherham Road) and I think they’ve had a few changes since then and they look even stronger, so we expect another stern test ,as all sides want to perform against the league leaders. We trained well on Tuesday and are looking forward to playing at home in front of hopefully another big crowd”

“We will keep working hard and try to get a positive result”.
