Tonks has done his homework ahead of Ponte test!

The Management team at Athersley Recreation have quickly become high-calibre contributors to the Bootiful Game, ( we also send our best wishes to Darren and the Rec-In Crew at Sheerien Park )  as we hear from the Penguins Assistant Manager Rob Tonks ahead of Saturday’s Toolstation NCEL Premier Division Clash with fourth-placed Pontefract Collieries. The thing is… although Colls are 18 points behind leaders AFC Mansfield, they have a staggering SEVEN games in hand. It looks like a tall order-and Rob thinks that an Athersley side near their best can take the game to Pontefract, writes Colin Muncie.

Rob told the Bootiful Game that his squad need to put last week’s loss at second-placed Maltby Main behind them as quickly as possible. “I’m hoping for a reaction from the lads after last week’s performance. We have shown the levels we can reach against Handsworth but we now need to be more consistent”.

Rob has done his homework on tomorrow’s visitors and he knows that only something approaching Rec’s top form will be good enough. “Having watched Pontefract against Worksop a couple of weeks ago, we are in for a really difficult game –and we need to back to our best” he said.
