It’s not that common that football clubs merge, and probably even rarer when two clubs in the same league do such – but subject to FA and League approval, ex-NCEL sides Ossett Town and Ossett Albion look set to merge.
Town are currently 13th in the EvoStik Division One North, whilst Albion occupy 19th. Both sides were in the NCEL for a number if seasons, Albion competing for 21 seasons, eventually winning the Premier Division title in 2003/04. Whilst Town played in 17 campaigns leaving in 1999 when they finished second in the NCEL top flight.
A joint statement from the club’s reads:
We can confirm that both Ossett Town AFC and Ossett Albion FC have agreed outline terms on a merger of the two clubs subject to FA and league approval. Discussions are at an advanced stage. This course of action does not affect either clubs junior programmes which will remain the same. We have had great support from the town as a whole so far and we will update everyone as soon as there are any further developments.
