Clayton’s still puzzled by league cup format ahead of Maltby test!

It’s sure to be an intriguing Toolstation NCEL League Cup clash at Manse Lane tonight when Knaresborough Town, leaders of Division One, meet a Maltby Main sitting third in the Premier Division and fresh from their win in the South Yorkshire derby with Parkgate on Saturday- and Knaresborough Assistant Manager Paul  Clayton , whilst eagerly anticipating the game, remains somewhat bewildered by the structure of the competition, writes Colin Muncie.

Paul told the Bootiful Game “It’s a game we’re really looking forward to, as it’s a chance to test ourselves against a team who are currently third in the Division above us. However, the League has got to be our priority so we’ll make 3 or 4 changes from the starting eleven from the last two league games. We have lads coming back from injury and others who have been unavailable, so it is a great game for the players to get their match sharpness back”.

“I have said a few times before that the format of the League Cup puzzles me” Paul said “This is our third game in the  competition, but it’s  Maltby’s first- and we’re still only down to last 32 teams?? Having said all that we will be trying hard to win the game and I hope the supporters turn up in numbers as it should be a cracking game- as I am sure Maltby will also want to progress in the competition”.
