If it’s possible to enjoy a late-night trip south down the M1, you can bet that the players and staff of Dronfield Town FC came close to doing so last night. They’d gone to talented and promotion chasing Yorkshire Amateur, in fourth place ,and came away from the Southerns Stadium with a stunning 5-2 away win, a result which lifts them up to thirteenth in the table-and as you’d anticipate, Dronfield Manager Chris Millington was delighted by his teams display, writes Colin Muncie.
A Chris Hitchings own –goal gave the visitors an early, sixth minute, lead in Leeds, but two quick-fire strikes from Harry Blakey (27 mins) and Brice Tiani (28) put Ammers in front. Mark Fereday (37) levelled things up at the break, as the 45-strong crowd sought out a warm half time drink. In to the second half, and man-of-the-match Callum Mawbey put Dronfield on the road to a famous victory with goals on (55) and (70) minutes, and James Savage sealed the deal with a fifth goal ten minutes from time.
Chris told the Bootiful Game “We were great tonight. I thought the way we managed the game was excellent. We started very well and deserved the lead but went behind after a crazy few minutes. We took stock and then got back in to the game just before half time. The second half was one-way traffic and we fully deserved the win”.
“We move on to Rossington on Saturday -and we know it will be a tough game”.
