Grimsby Borough kept up the pressure on the two sides above them as they keep their hopes of automatic promotion sky high – with a 2-1 win over AFC Emley.
Adam Drury opened the scoring after just 15 minutes, but then wasted several chances and just after the break Emley equalised through Joel Harrison.
Just ten minutes later striker Jack Denham scored a well taken goal to wrap up the points for The Wilderness Boys.
Joint manager Daniel Barrett was pleased with the win, but not so with the performance, “Yesterday was a positive result. I wasn’t best pleased with the performance being brutally honest. We had 1 or 2 lads who was 7/8 out of 10 the rest was at 5/6s.
“Emley set up well and was a threat from set plays as they have a few big lads who are hard to deal with. We need to winning games like that comfortably with the amount of chances we had. Emley had some very neat youthful players and they have improved massively since we played them earlier in the season.”
Whilst Nathan Collins, Borough’s other joint manager said, “Very good first half today and should of been out of sight really but for some reason the first 20 minutes of second half we wasn’t at the races. But credit to the lads they kept plugging away and got the winning goal and a massive three points but moving forward we know we can play a lot better than today.”
