Vigars certainly gives value for money as he previews EYC test

Just eleven games remain in Toolstation NCEL Division One for 8th-placed Glasshoughton Welfare, who sit just four points outside those coveted Play-Off places; on Saturday, Glassy head to 17th-placed East Yorkshire Carnegie –and Glasshoughton Joint Manager Lee Vigars, safely home from last night’s trip to Rotherham, concedes that it’ll be a tough assignment at Dunswell Park this weekend, writes Colin Muncie.

Lee told the Bootiful Game “It’s a difficult trip to Hull this weekend, against a side that pushed us all the way at home back in November. Although the scoreline was quite comfortable in the end, it certainly wasn’t an easy game. EYC caused us plenty of problems on that day and had some outstanding youngsters in the squad. They’ll be very difficult to play against on their own patch so we’re expecting a really tough afternoon”.

In reflecting on last night’s game with Parkgate, Lee told us that the game time given to key personnel is likely to pay dividends as the clock ticks down on the season “ We’re hoping to be back to pretty much full strength this weekend “ he said.” Lewis Akiester returned from injury last night against Parkgate and got a good 70 minutes work into his legs. Top goal scorer Andy Horbury is nearing a return and we’re hoping he’ll play some part this weekend but only if we feel he’s ready. The last thing we want to do is play Andy until the injury is no longer a concern. We’ve missed his presence and goal scoring in recent games so to have him back will give the squad a huge boost”.

“Selection will be difficult on Saturday as a few lads put their hand up last night and performed well against Parkgate- so I, Darren (Holmes, Joint Manager) and Rich (Tracey) will discuss things in more detail over the next 24 hours”.

EYC assistant manager Lewis Sarel said, “Saturdays game is going to be a tough game for us. When we played them away they where convincing winners and they had a game plan which they stuck too and it worked very well for them.

“We believe it’s a game we can get something from the same as any game we go into. It would be nice to start picking up some points at home again and get as many points as we possibly can from now until the end of the season.”
