Frickley launch exciting new venture

Frickley Athletic is launching a full time Development Academy that will be based from the BigFellas Westfield Lane stadium aimed at sixteen to eighteen year olds.

Students will work towards a BTEC Sports qualification as well as developing skills in English, Maths, ICT and personal and social development. They will train three to four days per week and play games on Wednesday afternoons in the English Schools College League. For those that excel there will also be opportunities to represent a Frickley Athletic team in the FA youth Cup.

The Development Academy will provide a playing and education programme designed to rapidly develop young players whilst making sure each student gains an excellent education at the same time. The football element of the course is delivered by UEFA qualified and experienced Coaches including First Team Manager and Sheffield Wednesday Youth Development Coach Spencer Fearn, ex – professional footballer and Assistant Manager John Stancliffe, A Licence Coach Andy McKnight previously Walsall, W.B.A and several teams in Scandinavia along with the BTEC Coaching team.

First Team Manager Spencer Fearn stated “we have seen the success of the Academy based in Rotherham that competes in the National Youth Alliance over the past 2 years and have had three Academy players made their first team debuts. We are very much a club that promotes the inclusion of young players and player development is at the heart of what we do across the football club. It is an exciting programme for players to take part in and represent Frickley Athletic in the various leagues and also the F.A Youth Cup”

The Development Academy is for those that are currently year 11, 12 or 13 students.

The club will make a further announcement about the full playing structure in the coming weeks.
