It should be a tremendous evening at the DSM Memorial Ground tonight when Penistone Church welcome Maltby Main as the South Yorkshire sides contest the semi-final of the Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup-and Church Manager Ian Richards can’t wait to get started, writes Colin Muncie.
Ian told the Bootiful Game “These games are the reason why we train and work so hard from July onwards. Huge credit to both Penistone and Maltby for reaching the semi final of the S&H Senior Challenge Cup and guaranteeing an NCEL club in the final, against either Shaw Lane or Frickley Athletic. Our preparations have been very good with a convincing 4-1 away win at Staveley , then an intense but enjoyable training session Saturday morning followed by a day out in Sheffield as a squad then a very well attended Club Race night”
Penistone have clearly prepared thoroughly for the tie, and are keen to expand their excellent, recent credentials in knock-out formats. “We trained again on Monday to give us the best chance of progressing” Ian explained. “We know it is going to be a very competitive and tough game against a well organised, hard working Maltby Main who have a group of players who give everything for each other and have been very consistent this season. We beat them 1-0 at the DSM Memorial Ground in November -which was a great advert for our League- and hope for the same outcome to make it three Finals in two seasons for the players”.
“Whatever the outcome ,we know it will be a well-attended, evenly- contested South Yorkshire derby.”
