Eighteenth-placed Nostell Miners Welfare got firmly back on the survival trail last night with a fine 2-0 away win over AFC Emley at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground , just a week after that heavy defeat at Grimsby Borough-and Welfare Manager Jason Dodsworth was understandably pleased with his side’s application against tough opponents, writes Colin Muncie.
In front of another fine crowd of 118, Lee Swift put the visitors ahead right on half time. Liam Owen doubled the advantage just after the hour, and Nostell resisted the home side in that second half to take a precious three points back to the Welfare Ground.
Jason told the Bootiful Game “We’re really pleased with the lads tonight in tough conditions. It was never going to be a pretty game, due to a heavy pitch and wind, but we came out deserved winners in a battle. We worked harder to get possession back when we lost it and hunted in twos instead of singles. Lee swift scored a great breakaway goal and Liam Owen added a fine finish in the second half.”
“We rode our luck at times in the second half as Emley pushed us back but we held on deservedly”.
