United Counties Round Up for Saturday 17th March

The main talking point of the weekend came at Holbeach, when their game at home to Northampton Sileby Rangers was called off at 2.15 when Sileby’s players failed to turn up following manager Matt Clarke’s resignation. The club now faces a hefty fine for the incident, writes Simon Davidson.

Leaders Yaxley won 2-1 at Harborough Town with goals from Phil Stebbing and Tom Waumsley to stay 6 points clear of Wisbech, who beat Leicester Nirvana 6-3 at home. Wisbech, however, would go top if they win their 3 games hand.

Deeping Rangers kept up the pressure on Yaxley, with a 3-1 win at Kirby Muxloe to remain 9 points off the lead with 4 games in hand. Scott Mooney with a brace and the other coming from Scott Coupland.

Dennis Greene earned his first victory as Boston Town manager with an impressive 2-0 home victory over Eynesbury. Elsewhere Desborough won 3-2 at ON Chenecks, St Andrews overcame Wellingborough Whitworth 3-2, Cogenhoe beat Peterborough Northern Star 2-1 thanks to goals from Montel Dore and Ryan Dove.

Wellingborough Town’s good form under new boss Nathan Marsh continued with a 3-1 victory at home to Daventry, Albert Akinremi, Nat Ansu and new signing Andy Hall with the goals.

In Division 1 Potton United closed the gap to leaders Pinchbeck to 11 points as the leaders game was called off and Potton came away from Harrowby with a 3-1 victory. Thrapston were the day’s big winners with a 4-0 victory over Long Buckby.

In the battle of the bottom 2, Oadby heaped the misery on bottom placed S&L Corby with a 3-0 victory moving 4 points clear . Elsewhere Bourne and Huntingdon played out a 1-1 draw, as did Olney and Bugbrooke St Michaels. Lutterworth and Buckingham drew 2-2
