Contrasting views as Rainworth come from behind to beat Athersley

With the pitches dried out it was a full fixture list for the first time in too long and Athersley made the trip South along the M1 to Rainworth but made the reverse journey at 5pm empty handed – after a 2-1 loss.

Kai Hancock did put Athersley into the lead just before the break but Tomas Poole and Kyle Jordan turned the game on it’s head to gift a certain Craig Denton all three points.

We spoke to the Rainworth MW manager just after full time and he told us:

Whilst from the other dugout Athersley manager Luke Potter rued missed chances, “Gutted for the lads. Patched up side with left back Vinten in nets but we played well. Organised and disciplined we created great chances and were the better side but fair play Rainworth. They had two shots, two goals and that’s football.

“We go again and it doesn’t get easier with Handsworth Monday and then Bridlington Wednesday.”
