Knaresborough take a step closer to title

It must just be a matter of time for Knaresborough Town to be crowned champions of NCEL Division One. They are 17 points clear but Eccleshill have two games in hand meaning it’s 7 points for promotion or 11 more for guaranteed champions.

Yesterday they swept aside second-bottom Retford United in a game watched by an impressive 221 – with goals coming from Brad Walker (5), Matthew Donnelly (32), Stephen Bromley (46) and Sam Cook (84).

First Team Coach Gregg Anderson was pretty much as expected, pleased, “Very delighted with the second half performance from the players.

“I thought Retford played better than Rossington did against on Tuesday night, they have some good players and caused us problems in the first half. We weren’t at the races for large periods on the first half.

“When it was 2-0 in the first half Tom young our keeper made an amazing save from a 1on1.

“Again myself and Paul Stansfeild addressed the issues we were concerned about and the lads responded brilliantly in the 2nd half.

“We scored virtually straight from the kick off to make it 3-0 and from there on we controlled the game. Ben Parks and Dom Wilson had tremendous games in the middle of the park.

“Very pleasing we kept another clean sheet and again the subs that came on made a big impact!

“We now move our thoughts on to training in mid week and then we travel to Hallam on Saturday for what will be a very tough game as they are on a very good run.”
