It was a sad night on Wednesday as a 5-2 loss TO Albion Sports saw Clipstone relegated from the NCEL Premier Division. Tomorrow they travel to face Scunthorpe based Bottesford Town and both sides expect a difficult afternoon.
Head of media operations at Birch Park, Howard Pirie said this morning, “We welcome Clipstone to Stadio Del Birch on Saturday. To say they’ve have only picked up one point all season, they’ve played with good spirit and camaraderie all season and deserve a pat on the back for that.
“But there will be no feeling sorry for them come the weekend as we need to keep winning our games and improving our goal difference.
“A top 6 finish is a real possibility for the team and justifies the effort the boys put in. I myself can’t be there as I am taking my wife up the Greetham Valley. I will be there in spirit though and hopefully we can make it 3 on the spin.
“Had a bit off a mare on Wednesday with a sending off a couple of injuries but the likes of young O’Sullivan and Johnson are more than capable of stepping up to the plate.
“Let’s hope Saturday at 10 to 5 I can raise a glass of Chateau Neuf Du Pape to another 3 points. UP THE BOTTY!”
Whilst relatively new Clipstone manager Alan Widdowson commented, “Saturday’s game at Bottesford will be another very difficult away trip for us. From my time at Rainworth MWFC when we played them they are a very good footballing side with bags of energy.
“We will have to apply ourselves like we did 2nd half against Albion. This time for the whole 90 minutes. If we do that we will give a good account of ourselves.
“A few players are returning so it’s a shuffle in playing staff. But they all know there roles and responsibilities so there won’t be a problem. As long as the attitude and desire of the players is there from the off we will be fine.”
