Essex Senior League Midweek Roundup

Hullbridge Sports made it 2 wins on the bounce and by scoring 4 goals for the 2nd game running with a 4-3 victory over fellow county side Basildon United, writes Andy Wilkins/@andywilkins2015.

With the game being moved from Lower Road to The Ho Ho Stadium due to a waterlogged pitch, the game resorted in Sports leading by 1-0 at half time before another 6 goals went falling in the net. 2 goals by Hullbridge in 2 minutes meant a fightback was required by ‘visitors’ Basildon. They managed to get a 3rd goal in the 2nd minute of stoppage time but it proved to be too late for Marc Harrison’s side. They remain 3 points behind from FC Romania with 2 games in hand. For Sports, they are now 5 points clear of the bottom 3 in 16th place following their victory in front of 80 people on Tuesday night.

Monday night saw Hackney Wick’s survival hopes take another blow with a 2-0 defeat at Enfield 1893with goals coming from Luke Thomas and Aundre Spencer in the 14th and 34th minutes. The win for Enfield was their 6th on the bounce and it moved them upto 11th place. It must be noted that Wick did up their game in the 2nd half by having most of the possession but their battle against the drop looks set to be ending soon if they continue to lose games whilst Burnham Ramblers and Wadham Lodge continue to pick up more points over the next few weeks.

Monday night also saw Takeley pick themselves up from their defeat to Redbridge with a 5-0 victory over Tower Hamlets at Mile End whilst on Tuesday night, Southend Manor continued their fine run of form with a 4-2 victory at West Essex. Mohamed Kargbo scored two goals in the victory for Adam Peek’s side.

In the Errington Challenge Cup Quarter Final, two goals from Neil Richmond saw Great Wakering defeat FC Romania at Burroughs Park. Richmond scored in the 4th and 33rd minute and the visitors managed to pull a goal back in the 84th minute but it was too late for a comeback. Rovers take on Basildon in the semi-finals.

Barkingside’s trip to Wadham Lodge was postponed on Wednesday and Takeley’s trip to Woodford Town on Thursday night was also postponed due to waterlogged pitches at both grounds.

This weekends fixtures see West Essex host Hackney Wick on Good Friday night at Mayesbrook Park whilst on Saturday there is a top clash between Basildon United and Redbridge at the Ho Ho Stadium with Basildon wanting to continue their promotion push with a victory whilst Redbridge will be keen to continue their 2 point lead over Great Wakering with a victory.

Burnham have another tough test at Leslie Fields in the disguise of Woodford Town and Clapton host Sawbridgeworth Town. FC Romania’s promotion push continues at Cheshunt with Sporting Bengal being the visitors to Theobalds Grove whilst Wadham Lodge travel to Cricklefield to take on Ilford.

Southend Manor host Barkingside at Southchurch Park. Both teams aren’t entirely clear from the threat from relegation yet and 3 points for the competing sides would do favours to their causes in this bottom half clash.

Stansted welcome high flying Enfield 1893 whilst Great Wakering travel to Takeley who might have one eye on Monday’s Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy final with FC Romania at Burnham Ramblers. Tower Hamlets also welcome Hullbridge to Mile End on Saturday.
