A single-goal defeat to eleventh-placed AFC Emley left eighth-placed Winterton Rangers two points adrift of sixth place in the Play-Off race at the top of Toolstation NCEL Division One; Rangers Manager Rob Watson had warned of the threat the Pewits were likely to pose at their Fantastic Media Welfare Ground in his pre-match comments-and so it proved , as Joe Jackson’s third minute strike settled the contest in front of a fine crowd of 166 on Upper Lane, writes Colin Muncie.
Mathematically, Winterton are still right in the Play-Off mix, but Rob suspects that the fact that teams around them have games in hand may count against his side. He told the Bootiful Game “We’re disappointed with the result today. We didn’t seem like we’d ever score and conceded from a goal I felt we should have defended better. Credit to Emley; they made it difficult all game and defended well. The keeper made an excellent save late on in the game which was worthy of the win. We have come a long way since October and we will look to plan early for next season”.
“We made three signings this week which will be great to have involved before the end of the season.”
“I believe its out our hands now as Hallam have games in hand. But we’ll not give up just yet.”
