Clayton hopeful of season extension as fixture backlog starts to effect everyone

With a sixteen point advantage at the top of Toolstation NCEL Division One ,Knaresborough Town travel to the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium tonight to face Selby Town, who lie ninth but with games in hand and only four points behind that sixth place-and Knaresborough Assistant Manager Paul Clayton is as frustrated as anyone by the impact of the recent weather, writes Colin Muncie.
Paul told the Bootiful Game “We were disappointed that Saturday’s game was off but it’s understandable that it was, as we had a lot of rain over Friday night and Saturday morning. It’s getting silly now with the games backing up for a lot of teams, but the weather since the turn of the year has been challenging, to say the least. We are quite fortunate that we don’t have as many to play as some. Hopefully the FA will grant an extension to the 5th May, as that will help quite a few teams and not make a lottery of the end of the season”.
Turning to tonight‘s opponents , Paul recalled his side’s 2-1 home win in the reverse fixture at Manse Lane “Selby have had a really good season but have lost a little bit of form lately which could be put down to the stop start few weeks they’ve had due to the postponements” Paul explained ” They gave us a very tough game just before Christmas and I was pleased with our second half performance against them which got us the 3 points. They are a dangerous side on their day and have got players that can score goals”.
“The players are ready for the final 7 games and are looking forward to getting back on the pitch to try and close the season out”.
