AFC Mansfield Commercial Manager Brian Stokes has been invited onto a youth panel that has been launched by the campaign group Football v Homophobia. Football v Homophobia is an international pressure group aiming to challenge homophobia, biphobia and transphobia within football. The youth panel hopes to devise strategies to help engage young people across Britain with the organisation’s work.
Commenting on his reasons for joining the panel Brian stated; “I want to see how we can help develop more strategies for the lower reaches of the game and I’m also looking forward to working with people with all sorts of different perspectives and backgrounds.”
The twelve member panel will use their experiences and insight from different perspectives of the game to help create a more positive and welcoming environment for LGBT+ young people involved in football. The campaign will also share ideas and develop strategies on how the organisation can have more success with reaching young people. The first meeting of the youth panel will be in June where the discussion will be about planning for the following season and early plans for the February 2019 Month of Action.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the work of the Youth Panel over the next 12 months. To donate then click on the following link: www.gofundme.com/football-v-homophobia-youth-panel.
