Lying fourteenth in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division and with a seventeen point advantage over Hall Road Rangers in twentieth, you’d have been forgiven for thinking that Dennyboys Joint Managers Mike Garrod and Pat McGuire would have one eye on next season as they prepare for tomorrow’s trip to seventeenth-placed Athersley Recreation-but not so; Pat is keen to reach a psychological points benchmark as soon as he can-and he wants to make up for a disappointing last time out, writes Colin Muncie.
Pat told the Bootiful Game “After defeat at Bottesford we’re itching for a game to right our wrongs. The lads have been training with intensity and we’ve told them not to let their hard work go to waste by not gaining results. The league is still too tight for our liking so we want the points on the board and us hitting the 40-point mark as soon as possible in our quest to finish with a decent points haul to put some smiles back on the faces of our loyal fans and committee, as we regard this as a pretty dismal season by our standards.”
Pat hopes that the Dennyfield squad will recognise the loyalty he and Mike have shown to them “ We’ve shown faith in the squad we had when Mike and I took over” he said “ and we will be reminding the lads of that as we’ve seen teams signing anyone and everyone this week in order to combat the fixture run in.
“We expect our faith to be repaid by the players achieving the points total we have set them”.
