Division One Play-Off chasing Shirebrook Town advanced to the 5th round of the Toolstation NCEL League Cup last night after a convincing 5-1 win over Premier Division title contenders Pontefract Collieries at Langwith Road. Both sides were compelled to ring the changes for the fixture; but as Shirebrook Manager Rob Camm explained, both sides put everything into the tie, writes Colin Muncie.
Shirebrook were five-up at the interval through Kieran Watson (22 minutes), Matthew Robinson (24) Watson again, (25mins- and his 47th of the season), Daniel Williams (35) and Robinson (41) to the delight of most of the 85-strong crowd. Kane Reece offered some consolation for Colls with a goal four minutes from time.
Rob told the Bootiful Game “We’re obviously delighted with the result. We rotated things a little -as did Ponte- and to be fair, everyone who came in played out of their skins. Tonight gives us some real headaches regarding team selection -but it’s a great problem to have. We had a very young side out tonight, full of energy and enthusiasm. Our finishing on the first half was ruthless”.
Rob doesn’t have much time to bask in the reflected glory of the win, with an important League clash at home to Nostell next up. “ I’m a little bit stuck for words to describe it to be honest but we can’t get carried away” he admitted ;” the League is the important part and Wednesday is another big game where we have to be at our best”.
Paul saved his parting words for the Pontefract Management team “I’ve got a lot of respect for their management team; they’re very respectful lads who will fully deserve all the success that comes their way”.
