Can it be 7th time lucky for East Yorkshire Carnegie and Grimsby Borough- as they attempt to play their NCEL League Cup Third Round tie AGAIN!
Following a series of unfortunate postponements, they will try once more, in what has become probably the most postponed game in NCEL recent history.
We caught up with EYC Assistant Manager Lewis Sarel this morning ahead of the tie, “Dare we say it but if the weather stays dry now we might actually be getting this cup game played.
“We trained on Thursday night and had a quick look at the pitch and it looked like it should be fine aslong as we don’t get anymore rain before the game. In terms of the game it gives us a chance to take focus off the league and have a real go at getting into the next round.
“We threw the game away when we played them in the league early on in the season so we know we are capable of putting in a performance against them.”
Nathan Collins, Borough’s joint manager was somewhat surprised at the game being switch from the league tie it was meant to be, “Abit suprised the game has been changed to a cup game but it’s actually not a bad thing for us as it gives our injured players a couple more days to recover before our next league game.
“Adam Drury’s suspension has finished now and Luke Mascall has one more game, those two along with Daniel Trott and Jack Bradbury returning from injury will be a massive boost as between them there is probably 80 goals plus a season and they have been a big miss for us.
“Hopefully we get through this game with no more injuries and then we can really have a go at our last few league games with all guns blazing.”
Whilst Grimsby Borough joint manager Daniel Barrett had this to say, “I just want the game on.”
“That’s all from me.”
