Borough come from 2-down to keep automatic promotion hopes alive!

Two behind at Selby Town at the interval, you’d have been forgiven for thinking that Grimsby Borough were about to suffer a hammer blow in their ongoing battle for automatic promotion from Toolstation NCEL Division One; but by full time, the Wilderness Boys had turned the evening on its head after Josh Venney’s late late winner set the Robins’ Play-Off charge back a little- and Grimsby Borough’s Management team were thrilled to leave the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium with three precious points, writes Colin Muncie.

The home side took that half-time lead in front of a crowd of 84 at Richard Street thanks to Chris Bilton (28 minutes) and Gary Collier (42 mins); but Borough hit back through Jack Debnam (50 mins) Jack Bradbury ( 79) and that last minute winner from Venney.

Grimsby Borough Joint Manager Daniel Barrett told the Bootiful Game “- I am obviously delighted with three points. The score line at 2-0 didn’t reflect the game at half time- we had to make two substitutes within 25 minutes due to injuries which wasn’t ideal: and Selbys second goal was one of the best I’ve seen at this level. We had to bang a few heads at half time; and we made a tactical change. We deserved everything we got from the game as our second half performance warranted it.”

Nathan Collins, joint Manager, agreed. “Fantastic win tonight; again we had an injury- hit squad; we had to make two substitutions in the first half due to injuries and found ourselves two goals down. We changed formation at half time and if it wasn’t for some great saves by their keeper it would have been 5 or 6 -but I have to give my players credit for turning the game on its head and getting a big three points.”
