Shirebrook Town confirmed their place in the Toolstation NCEL Division One Pla-Offs last night with a hard-fought 2-1 home win over East Yorkshire Carnegie, who aren’t quite safe at the other end of the table. It was by no means a routine win for the home side in front of a crowd of 109 at Langwith Road, as Carnegie led at the interval, and into the last ten minutes, through Daniel Walker’s 22nd-minute goal. However , Shirebrook weren’t to be denied , and 52-goal Kieran Watson (82 mins) and Matthew Robinson (89) sealed the win, writes Colin Muncie.
Shirebrook Manager Rob Camm told the Bootiful Game ” We’re delighted to get the points to seal the Play- Off place. It wasn’t pretty from us tonight and we had to dig in. East Yorkshire didn’t give anything away, we had to work and scrap for every ball. After drawing the last two, it was important we just got ourselves cemented in there and not leave it down to the last day -or to rely on others. As I said it wasn’t great by any means tonight. We have spoken all season about putting runs together and we have managed to put our best run together at the perfect time”.
“Hats off to the lads who have been playing Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday now for the past 2-3 weeks and ground out the results” Rob added “They get a nice break now before we go to Grimsby on Saturday”.
