Thackley took a 1-0 half time lead into the away dressing room at the Recreation Club last night in their Toolstation NCEL Premier Division match up with Pickering Town thanks to Matt Broadley’s 22nd minute goal-but by full-time the Pikes had closed to within five points of league leaders AFC Mansfield through Billy Logan (55 mins) Ryan Blott (68 mins, and 45 for the season) and Brad Freer (75) in front of a fine crowd of 153- but Dennyboys Joint Manager Pat McGuire won’t have been the greatest company on his sides trip home to Bradford, writes Colin Muncie.
Pat told the Bootiful Game “Second half syndrome for us again. The lads were fantastic in the first half and went in 1-0 up pretty comfortably. We knew exactly what Pickering would throw at us in the second half, but once again we haven’t dealt with it. It’s so frustrating because the lads have worked their socks off, but one lack of concentration or one instance of a player not doing the job we’ve asked them to is costing us at the minute”
Pat had a warning for his squad. “It’s fine margins but we’re losing too many games and it’s not good enough” he admitted “ We’re mathematically safe from relegation but we said -in no uncertain terms -that if the lads are happy with that ,they’re at the wrong football club”
