Robinson preparing in a professional manner for Thatcham’s biggest ever game…at Wembley!

The Bootiful Game has spoken this week to Thatcham Town Manager, Danny Robinson. Thatcham Town have had a massive season on a number of fronts, they currently top the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division and have already achieved promotion and they have put together a run at the time of writing of 39 straight games without defeat which includes their run to the final of the Buildbase FA Vase. We Spoke to Danny about the feeling around the club and about that unbeaten run, just how far can it take them?

“We haven’t won nothing yet, but we are certainly having a good season, we have managed to get promoted no so I’m over the moon with that and no we need to try and win the league with some cup finals to go. It is a case of finishing the job.

“It is easily the biggest game in the clubs history, the feeling around the place is vibrant, it is bouncing as you would expect, all of the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes are preparing for Wembley and we are planning for a weekend to remember. Everyone’s walking around with a smile on their faces from the players through to the Chairman.

“When that final whistle went at the end of the semi-final second leg against 1874 Northwich it was an incredible feeling, it’s a boyhood dream to get to Wembley either as a player, coach or manager and it was an unbelievable feeling and it was so good to see the looks on the faces of everyone around the club when we secured that final place.

“I think we are aiming to take 5000 fans with us in the day, we are up to about 3,500 tickets sold at the moment and I think we will get that number as well, there is a lot of anticipation around the place. As the season has progressed we have attracted more and more fans to the ground as they have been hearing about what we have been achieving as a club, we have also been attracting a number of Reading fans to the ground when Reading have been away and everyone has been made welcome. The Vase helps, winning games of football also helps attract people in and we are playing the type of football that people want to come and watch so we offer a good day out at Thatcham Town.

“A lot is made about the unbeaten run, but we do seem to have developed that winning mentality, that combined with some really talented players we have managed to live up to our potential. Of those 39 games it is worth bearing in mind that we drew only two of them as well so there is a good win ration there. I’m blessed to work with the lads I’ve got, whatever eleven I put out from the squad I know they will give me their all and follow the game plan to bring in the win, it is a side that has gelled and developed over the two and a half to three seasons I have been here, it’s like a big family. We have that consistency and momentum that every club looks for and my players have been terrific. We haven’t won nothing yet though and as a Thatcham resident it is great to be part of a movement that is bringing joy to the town.

“On the day we will be ready, yes obviously we are going to enjoy ourselves but tactically we will have Stockton assessed, we have had them watched twice already and I am making the journey up to their forthcoming game at Penrith and they play Jarrow Roofing the following Saturday to watch them. We have watched our opponents in previous rounds, it is what we do, we prepare professionally and we will aim for it to pay off. It has been a long season, we have already had some success but now we have to finish the job and that includes a League Title, Cup and Buildbase FA Vase success if we can, if we don’t it won’t be through lack of effort that’s for sure.
