Message frpm Armthorpe Welfare Chairman Lee Carmody:
Now we’ve reached the end of the season we reflect on what has been a very frustrating campaign. We came in to the Toolstation NCEL 1st Division under no illusion – we always knew the standard of football was good and we would have to be at our best to compete. What we have seen this year is a group of hard working players and management, committed to the club – and whilst the results on the pitch haven’t always reflected the efforts, undoubtedly we have seen some excellent football played both home and away.
We have said this before and I make no apologies for saying it again, running a successful football club at this level is tough. It takes dedication and sacrifice from the squad, Management team and Committee – and I am really proud of the Welfare family for pulling together to help us maintain a really positive attitude around the club.
I would personally like to thank Ron, Martin, Martin, Phil, Phil, Joey, Steve, Kirsty and Erica for the time effort and work they put in behind the scenes – and a special thankyou to Tony who has worked incredibly hard under some difficult conditions to maintain an enviable pitch all season – Tony takes real pride in the Church Street ground and in his spare time spends a bit of time at home – We all wish you well in your retirement Tony and now with all that extra time on your hands perhaps you can spend…….even more time mowing & rolling!
I would also like to thank Mike, Ben, and Steve for the incredible work they put in, I know they work so hard and take the highs and lows of football very personally – and also Elly, Paul & Matt for their valuable Physio support this year.
The squad of course who make our day or break our hearts on a regular basis deserve tremendous recognition – the determination and will to succeed amongst the team is great to see – Our sponsors who help us keep our heads above water – thank you – Danny, Acker, Bruce and the regulars who can always be relied on to lend a hand – and the dedicated fans that regularly turn out to see us – many thanks to you all.
All in all a season of ups and downs – but a really promising foundation for the future. Mike is starting to think about his squad for next year and during the close season we will; as always be looking to carry out improvements around the ground.
I would like to offer our congratulations to Graham Amery (Armthorpe Wolves U16) and Gaz Hirst (Armthorpe Rovers U18) for their performances this year and thank both for their invaluable help and support.
As I have said – running the club is tough but rewarding and with that in mind we once again extend our thanks to those that contribute – However we are always in need of further help – If grass roots football is to survive we need your assistance – If you are a local business who is looking for sponsorship opportunities, an individual who would like to get involved or even someone who can lend a hand around the club, please get in touch – WE NEED YOU!
So it is with renewed enthusiasm, confidence and determination that we look forward to the 2018/19season – A solid foundation for the future and with continued grit and determination I am optimistic for some considerable success next year.
