Grimsby Borough gave a tremendous account of themselves in the Final of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy at Ashby Avenue last night, losing 4-1 on penalties to United Counties League Premier division side Holbeach United after the sides were level at 1-1 after the regulation ninety minutes –and Wilderness Boys Joint Manager Daniel Barrett headed for home delighted with how his players had performed on the night, writes Colin Muncie.
Daniel told the Bootiful Game “Tonight was a bonus match for us. Obviously we would have loved to have won; we were the better side in my opinion and apart from a couple of poor decisions the game could have been different. Penalties are a lottery and the lads did themselves proud against higher League opposition”
Not much time for Daniel to lick his wounds, even if he wanted to –he has a massive appointment at Bradley Road next week, and his team head into the Play-Off semi-final with Glasshoughton Welfare in decent form “ We have now gone eight unbeaten excluding the NCEL League Cup game against Ollerton ,where we sent our youngsters”.
“We have a week to prepare ourselves now and have a real good crack at these Play- Offs”
Whilst joints manager Nathan Collins added, “Gutted for the lads tonight as I thought we was the better side and to lose on penalty’s is never nice. Holbeach just went direct all night but I thought we dealt with it quite well. We had a lot of young lads playing and the experience will help them moving forward, we can rest up now and look forward to the play offs next week.”
