He’s an unpredictable one, is Howard Pirie , the Head of Media Operations at Bottesford Town , up to ninth in the Toolstation NCEL Premier ; he sends the teams out to battle with AC/CD thundering in their ears , then references a 1990’s dance-pop band in his post match review. We’ll let that hang there for now, though, and report that the Poachers served up the equivalent of an all-day breakfast at Birkdale Park, including the now-customary triple Bacon sandwich, as they beat a youthful Parkgate side 5-0 to keep their eighth-place ambitions well and truly alive-and Howard is pleased at how the side have kicked on this year, writes Colin Muncie.
The damage was done in a 35-minute first half-period when Dec Bacon, reportedly in sizzling form, took his season’s tally to a fine 36 with three well -taken goals (5, 24 and 35 minutes), the third strike an absolute beauty. The impressive Dayle Hutson chipped in with the third goal after 25 minutes. The visitors, with seven players 21 years or under, worked hard and weren’t disgraced in any way, but the 49-strong crowd took in the half time break with the hosts 4-0 ahead. Lee Ridley glanced a header home from a right-wing free-kick to make it 5-0. At least the M180 was open for Parkgate’s trip home.
Howard told the Bootiful Game “It was a workmanlike performance against a hardworking Parkgate side; we missed a trick really and didn’t capitalise in the second half. Another great hat trick for our talisman Declan Bacon, 40 goals with 2 games left is amazing, to say he came to the team as a fringe player. We have another six points to go for and that 8th spot. Whatever happens now it’s a good achievement for the club this season”
Howard –a terrific contributor all year-had kind words for the Bootiful Game. He told TBG Editor Craig Kendall “Great to meet up with Colin tonight, you and him have done a great job all year”.
Howard referenced the legendary Rachel Stevens in his wrap up. “As in the words of S Club 7 “Let’s reach for the stars”.
“Up the Botty”.
