It’s a terrific-looking encounter tonight as the Neil Hudgell Stadium as Bridlington Town and AFC Mansfield hope to extend their season by one more game (two in Brid’s case) as they meet in the Semi-Final of the Toolstation NCEL League Cup with a Final at Bramall Lane at stake-so it’s a fair bet many of us won’t be bouncing at the prospect. Ah well, on to the football , and before tonight’s winner- takes- all matchup, and despite home advantage, Seasiders Manager Curtis Woodhouse is making Rudy Funk’s men the favourites to book their place in Sheffield on May 21st, writes Colin Muncie.
Curtis points to a serious chasm in spending power between his club and those above them in the table as part of the reason.”It’s a semi final and a one off game but we start as big underdogs” he told the Bootiful Game “ We haven’t beaten anybody in the top five season and against Pickering last week the gulf in class was plain to see. We are seriously outgunned by the big boys in our league and financially getting blown out of the water; but in a one -off game anything can happen so we will give our best. For us to win, we must do something we haven’t managed all season and some of our lads need to step up to the plate and instead of talking about being good players in this league , they need to actually go out and prove it”.
“Tonight is a platform to show if they have it or they don’t. Over to you lads…”
