Around a quarter of Thatcham’s population witnessed history yesterday as they defeated Northern League Division One side Stockton Town 1-0 – a first-half penalty from Shane Cooper-Clark, his 62nd goal of a prolific season for him, was enough to secure victory under the arch.
Striker Jamel Johnson started on the bench, but came on with 21 minutes to go and replaced Jordan Brown. Johnson caused problems for Stockton and helped them see out the famous win.
“I think we ran out deserved winners in the end. We had the better of the chances and the boys as whole defended really well. When the final whistle blew it was surreal.
“It’s a moment I’ve dreamt about and at full time it was just an out pour of emotions. To do it with a club I’ve spent the best part of 10 years with and with the band of brothers my teammates have become has been amazing.
“The fans and the atmosphere were unreal and I’m so pleased for them and everyone involved at the club.”
