Ian Richards and Penistone Church will have a big void to fill, after it was announced that after two years at the club, striker Scott Whittington is leaving the club.
Whittington has seen a meteoric rise at Church View Road, winning the NCEL Division One play-offs against Grimsby Borough, lifting the NCEL League Cup at Bramall Lane and then helping them to a 7th place finish in the NCEL top flight – the clubs highest ever finish.
“I started a new job just after Christmas so it meant I was unavailable for quite a few games. I can’t give the commitment needed to play NCEL next season. I want to give a massive thanks to Ian and Dunc (Ian and Duncan Richards) and also to Dave Hampshire and everyone else involved at Penistone.
“I’ll be signing for Ecclesfield red rose in the Sheffield league. Some good friends of mine have taken over so will be playing when work allows.”
Gutted to say I’ll be leaving @pcfc1906. Work and family mean I can’t commit to what’s needed. Been an amazing 2 years at a top club, run by top people with amazing fans too. Thanks to @teddyrich and @Dweeb112 and all the lads. #beenapleasure #clubgoingplaces ⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️ pic.twitter.com/9Ns44MGvco
