Exciting plans ahead explains new Liversedge Chairman

Yesterday is was announced that Simon Turfrey had been appointed as Liversedge’s new Chairman and we caught up with him this morning and asked him about the plans going forward at The Clayborn Ground.

“The current committee & manager have consolidated their place as a mid-table NCEL Premier Division club over the last few years, which is a massive achievement given the difference in finance and structure that other clubs have, I havegreat respect for what they have achieved.

I have had numerous meetings with the people at Liversedge and from these meets I concluded that they wanted to move forward, entice younger members of the team and really push on, but also they respect the need for doing this in the correctmanner, this being underpinning the football as well as upping its income, this is a gradual development and one which does take time.

In saying this we all know that we have to start as we mean to go on, so the club have immediately set up a Development group of players which will ply their trade in the U19 & U23 leagues for the coming season, in doing this we have brought in a number of experienced people to aid the transition including Dave Haley & Terry Bates, both of whom I have had experience at working with.

Football is changing and the aim is to bring Liversedge FC into the modern era, the next few months will see the club up their development plan which will include;

  • · Linking with local Junior Clubs to provide help & advice in not only coaching methods but nutrition, sports science & social attitude education, this will then aid the players to be ready for the next step of football
  • · Work towards setting up BTEC courses in Sport thus giving junior players a clear pathway into Football
  • · Development Group of players, yet another pathway for players to join the first team and beyond if at all possible
  • · Linking also with local Football Academies again enhancing the pathway for junior players and any potential players wanting to join

Liversedge already have some good people at the club, and the current management trio of the 1stteam, Rimmo, Darren & Simon have done an excellent job and will be an enormous bonus to us setting up & applying our plan.
