End of an era as Division One play-offs come to an end!

After three years of play-offs at Step 6 involving Bottesford Town, AFC Emley, Grimsby Borough, Penistone Church and Eccleshill United- the FA in their wisdom have scrapped the idea.

The NCEL Division One play-offs have been a breathe of fresh air since it’s introduction in 2015, and has attracted over 2,700 fans to the 12 ties over the three years.

However, it has been confirmed that just ONE will be guaranteed promotion from the NCEL Division One whilst second place MAY go up but depends on points-per-game across Step 6 as their are 28 promotion places from Step 6 to Step 5. As their are 19 Step 6 leagues that leaves 9 promotion places so the best 9 second places sides go up.

…and breathe.

Please note that this decision has been made by The FA and not by the NCEL.

  1. Congratulations to the idiots at the F.A. who came up with this, you’ve just killed the season by Xmas!… if a team is running away with the league by then, teams & supporters are not going to bother turning up for games, especially away in midweek when there is nothing to play for! NCEL you have to appeal against this!
