Late on Monday night Vanarama National League South side East Thurrock United confirmed the signing of former Premier League defender Paul Konchesky.
He has played for Charlton Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Fulham, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Queens Park Rangers, and Leicester City. Konchesky made 15 appearances for the England under-21 team and was capped twice for England.
On 21 July 2016 Konchesky joined Gillingham on a one-year contract. He remained with the club only until the following February, when he dropped four levels to join Billericay Town of the Isthmian League.
Having played twelve times in the 2016–17 season, Konchesky made a further eleven league appearances the following season, before leaving Billericay in November 2017.
Manager John Coventry said: “I am delighted Paul has agreed to join us, he will bring a significant presence to our club as a player and his knowledge of the game at the very highest level will be something our young players will gain massively from.
“They can’t help but learn from him and as a player he will also be a significant asset to our squad. It may not be the division’s biggest but we are trying to build a team of quality that people will enjoy watching.
“The fact that Paul has joined us when there would have been a lot of doors open to him is a huge thing for our football club.”
