Do friendly results really matter…will anyone break the recent NCEL curse?

A lot is made of friendly results up and down the country with sides trying to “get one over” on certain clubs but do the results reflect in their season performance.

Their is an element to say that winning friendlies gives you momentum to build on – so we took a look at the previous five NCEL seasons and the friendly results (win percentages) of both divisional champions that season.

Pontefract Collieries  75%
Knaresborough Town 37.5%

Cleethorpes Town 33.3%
Hall Road Rangers  20%

Tadcaster Albion  12.5%
Hemsworth MW 50%

Shaw Lane Aquaforce 80%
Clipstone 50%

Brighouse Town 20%
Cleethorpes Town 50%

Scarborough Athletic 43%
Albion Sports 0%

So what’s the conclusion? Don’t win all you friendlies unless you want to break the recent curse?!
