Nostell Miners Welfare have had a difficult few years but the ship has certainly been steadied these past few months since Simon Houghton and Jason Dodsworth came in at The Welfare Ground.
Joint manager Jason Dodsworth has his heights firmly set high, “We are looking forward to the new season at Nostell and hopes are high that we can have a good push and get into the top 6 in the league.
“We have retained our players from last season and also made some fantastic additions which has given us more strength in depth as a squad.
“The competition for places is on and the lads know what me, Simon (Houghton) and Pozzi (Ryan Poskitt) expect so it’s down to them now.
“I’m expecting a really tough season as quite a lot of clubs have recruited really well and there is a lot of players now in this league that can easily play higher so it will be interesting.
“It’s vital you get off to a good start because as we know there are no play offs now so instead of possibly 12 teams still fighting for promotion after Xmas your probably going to be looking at 2 or 3 so it’s vital to get points on board early.
“I think everyone expects Grimsby Borough, Selby and Hallam to be up there this season and if we can mix it with them then we will be on the right tracks.”
Whilst Nostell other manager Simon Houghton echoed, “Pre-season been good, results not gone the way we would want but it’s about getting players to gel and getting ready for season.
“New signings have definitely improved us and we have competition for places which we didnt have last seaaon. We have two tough pre-season games left so hopefully be ready for start of season. It’s going to be a tough league this year and we are going enjoy it and see where it takes us.”
