Glasshoughton Welfare were one of the surprise packages last season as they managed to out-muscle Hallam and Selby Town to secure a play-off position. However, they were out-done in the Play-Off Semi-Final by Grimsby Borough and joint manager Lee Vigars is hoping to mount another challenge at the right end of the table.
“Our pre-season literally started just six weeks after we finished with the play-off semi-final loss to Grimsby Borough. The boys didn’t get much time off and that has effected our preparation this time around.
“A lot of holidays have been booked throughout July which means we’ve not had the full squad at any training session or game which hasn’t helped at all.
“We’ve also suffered off the back of a highly successful 2017/18 campaign with the majority of our squad being approached from other clubs within the NCEL and above – which was to be expected. Fortunately we’ve managed to retain the majority which is fantastic but a few have decided to move on.
“Recruitment has gone well and we’ve managed to secure the signatures of some key players who we hope will help us challenge again at the right end of the table this coming season. Young Jack Knight has been superb in the middle of the park in recent games along with Seb Sokol and Matty Bowman who both had outstanding games against Goole.
“Our performances have improved game on game throughout pre season and we just can’t wait for the season to get going now.”
