Wayne Benn has been at the helm of Hemsworth MW for a number of seasons – always improving his squad and league position and he is looking forward to the new campaign.
“I’m reasonably pleased with how pre-season has gone so far, but I’m not a big fan of pre-season. It’s a means to an end and it’s all about building towards 4th August.
“Pre-season can be a bit frustrating with players away on holiday amongst other things so we don’t pay too much attention to results.
“We’ve also looked at a lot of trialists that we have tried to be fair to and given plenty of game time to.
In three tough home games against Bradford (Park Avenue), Ossett Utd and Barnsley we have, for long spells played really well, and if we were results driven we wouldn’t have made the many changes we have, but for me that just gives a false picture.
“On the recruitment front, we are happy to have signed some really good players to complement the already fantastic group of players we have retained.
We still need to make decisions on a couple of trialists and we are still actively looking to improve the squad and we are having to be very patient on that score but I’m happy with where the squad is at the minute and now it’s about getting everyone to the 4th August fit and injury free if possible.
“In terms of the upcoming season, again it will be a tough league with probably 8/10 teams who hope to be in the mix for promotion. We aim to be one of those but our 1st aim as always is to improve on last seasons finishing position and we are quietly confident that we can achieve that.”
