We are coming up to the second anniversary of Mick Carmody’s reign at NCEL Division One side Armthorpe Welfare – and after a difficult couple of campaigns, he believes that he has a squad of players capable of progression.
Carmody spoke to us late this week ahead of next week’s opener, “I’ve actually enjoyed pre season this year. Historically it’s not a time I enjoy as I’ve previously found it a frustrating time with a lot of hype.
“However, this season has been a breath of fresh air; we have been focusing on the players we finished with last season and attracting the new lads that we’ve brought in. The group we finished last season with have a real togetherness and keeping that going has been the goal.
“Then we wanted to bring in the right type of players to enhance that, something I feel that we have done. Each of the new lads have settled well and add a new dimension to the team.
“In a league where money rules, these lads have shown me that it’s not everyone’s first thought. I’m very excited for the new season and looking forward to seeing how we continue to progress.
“The pre-season games have been a good test for the lads to try and implement our systems of play. That’s the most important thing at this stage as we know results mean very little.
“As for the season we will focus on improving as a team and obviously try to win every game we play – easier said than done as we have some very good teams in this league. I look for forward to the challenge and it’s one we’ll face together as a team.”
