Last season Scott Mason’s Maltby Main has their best season for 27 years as they finished 5th in the NCEL top flight – amassing 75 points, which in turn was their highest ever in their long esteemed NCEL history.
Mason was only put in charge at Muglet lane a week before last season so with a full pre-season behind them, he is very optimistic, “Pre-season as been a tough one. 90% of our squad had phone calls from other clubs – then losing players you don’t expect too doesn’t help.
“Then having to go out and bring in more than expected upsets the balance a little. But we are looking good and ready to go.
“We’ve added quality of experience and young quality players. Louis Axcell joined us from Handsworth Parramore to be my number two along side John Crossland this summer. He’s come in and been a great addition already.
“We have Added more quality to training and made it tough but enjoyable. We’ve had like everyone a pre-season with players going on holidays and we still have holidays to come what annoys us.
“But we shall deal with this it’s not ideal but the lads ain’t full time and some have family’s so need to go away in school hols.
“We have a good local derby game versus Parkgate away on Monday night. I’m sure come Saturday we will have them ready to go “
