Blyth AFC Joint-manager Jon McDonald believes the squad will be “ready and prepared” for their first game in Northern League Division One.
The Braves are set to embark on their very first season in Division One and take on neighbours Ashington at Woodhorn Lane on Saturday.
Blyth rounded off their pre-season campaign with a 3-0 win over Washington at the weekend, with Liam Gillesphey, Dylan Williamson and Cameron Fenton all getting on the scoresheet – the Braves won five of their six game in pre-season, scoring 27 goals.
McDonald said: “Pre-season has been interesting this year in terms of cancellations due to clashed with World Cup games etc.
“We’ve played some excellent stuff in pre-season, kept four clean-sheets in six of those games. Recruitment has been good, we’ve brought in the players we had identified and that’s pleasing.
“All the lads and the staff are now ready for August 4, this week we will be training twice. These sessions will be the fine tuning ready for our first game in Division One.”
Blyth were crowned Division Two champions in May and the summer has been a successful one in terms of recruitment for the club.
The new players have embedded into the squad and won five consecutive games in pre-season and McDonald was impressed with what he saw against Washington.
“I’m really pleased with the performance against Washington,” McDonald said. “I thought, in the first-half, we were very good, both in and out of possession.
“In the first-half, in particular, we created four or five very good chances. We’ve always been working towards the first game on August 4. We will be ready and prepared for the first game.”
Blyth’s game away to Ashington at Woodhorn Lane will kick-off at 3:00pm on Saturday.
