Glasshoughton Welfare set their bar pretty high last season. They logged a wonderful campaign, and a sixth-placed finish in Division One eventually took them to semi-final disappointment at the hands of Grimsby Borough. On Saturday, Glassy head to Dunswell Park and a season opener at East Yorkshire Carnegie –and Joint Manager Lee Vigars is pretty satisfied with his side’s pre-season return, writes Colin Muncie for the Bootiful Game.
Lee told us “I’m really looking forward to Saturday’s opening league game over in Humberside. It’s always a tough encounter over there; EYC have some very talented players and work extremely hard as a team, so we’ll have to be on the very top of our game to come away with the points. However, we’ll travel there in good spirits following an impressive pre -season with some great results against Premier Division sides -and a number of fantastic individual performances along the way”.
Lee is well aware of the importance of getting off the blocks quickly. “ It’s imperative to get off to a good start this year, especially with only the top 2 gaining promotion, (the second place conditionally) ” Lee added “ so we’ll give it 100% and hopefully that’ll be enough”.
