After a fine sixth place in their second season in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division, Hemsworth Miners Welfare will be hoping for even better as a new campaign gets under way on Saturday. However, ‘Wells have an awkward-looking curtain-raiser this weekend, as they travel to Haworth Park to face Hall Road Rangers, who recovered strongly to twelfth after a mid-season points deduction-and although Hemsworth’s popular Manager Wayne Benn isn’t reading too much into recent friendly matches, he’s expecting a difficult afternoon on Dawson Drive, writes Colin Muncie.
Wayne told the Bootiful Game “So we start the season on Saturday with a tough away trip to Hall Road Rangers. Pre- season has been mixed for us in terms of results and performances but there were reasons for that; so we draw a line under all that and look forward to the real stuff. We have a fully fit squad to choose from and that’s a blessing after 6 weeks of hard graft that usually throws up the odd niggle or injury”.
Wayne is looking forward to Saturday’s big kick off. “The opening day of the season is exciting for everyone and it’s important to get off to a good start, so we will travel to Hull ready to give everything to try and bring the points back down the M62” he said. “We know it won’t be easy.Hall Road are a very capable side and will make life difficult for us, I’m sure. They deservedly beat us- and beat us well -in the last game of last season and although quite a few of their players have moved on, I’m sure they will have recruited well”
“We will need to be right at it to get the win”.
