Goole AFC spent 11 years at Step 4 in both the EvoStik Division One North and South Divisions and achieved a highest finish of 10th. However, a slip in form and fortune saw Goole finish inside the bottom two two years on the bounce and after a reprieve in the first season, they were relegated in May to the NCEL.
Derry Robson and Steven Jeff took over at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds just six weeks ago and we caught up with Derry this morning for his thoughts ahead of Saturday’s game at home against Worksop Town.
“I am looking forward to a tough test Saturday. Worksop have recruited well this summer and should be up there challenging for the title. Although the first game doesn’t define your season, we want to get off to a good start.
“Pre-season for us was a slow burner for alot of reasons but the lads are fit and everyone knows what me and Jeffy expect of them. We should be confident going into the game on the back of a good performance and result against a strong belper side.
“There’s a buzz back at Goole which hasn’t been there for years. It’s a fresh start in the Ncel and everyone at the club has worked very hard in difficult circumstances this summer. A healthy crowd is expected at the vpg saturday and we want to give them 3 points.
