Dodsworth delighted as Nostell win opening game of season for 1st time since 2015!

Three years ago Nostell Miners Welfare upset promotion favourites Cleethorpes Town with a narrow 1-0 win in the NCEL Premier Division. Fast forward to 2018 and they are now one of the league favourites in Division One and dispatched Parkgate 3-0 at Roundwood this afternoon.

Goals from Jack Owen, Danny Critchlow and an injury-time Bradley Kerr strike saw off Parkgate as Nostell end the opening day ojnthe season in 4th place.

Manager Jason Dodsworth was delighted with the win, “Really pleased with our overall performance today we rode our luck once or twice but overall I thought we were the better side and we could have scored a lot more.

“All the players put a great shift in and that’s all we can ask of them. Parkgate were a big side and very dangerous from set peices but the defending from ourselves was really good.

“We had quite a few players out too which is even more pleasing as it shows the strength in depth we have.”
