McGuire disappointed his Thackley side couldn’t hold on for the win in derby day draw

A superb opening day crowd of 196 saw Thackley and Eccleshill United battle of a derbybday 1-1 draw in the searing heat.

Jordan Hines put Thackley into the lead with ten minutes on the clock but a Jassim Alali just after the half way mark of the second half saw the Bradford based sides share the spoils.

Thackley boss Patrick McGuire was overall pleased with the result, “The game was exactly as expected. I tip my hat to the players on both teams for going at it at that pace for 90 minutes in sweltering heat.

“It’s disappointing not to hold a lead; I think we could have been better on the ball second half and show more quality, but on the whole for our first game of the season away at Eccleshill I think the lads have done great. Still plenty of room for improvement but we’re on the board with a point to take us into a tough FA cup encounter next week.”
