It’s an early reunion for the players of Glasshoughton Welfare and East Yorkshire Carnegie following EYC’s impressive 4-1 opening day win at Dunswell Park. The teams meet again in Toolstation NCEL Division One tomorrow night, with Glassy’s Joint Manager Lee Vigars unimpressed by how quickly the reverse fixture had been arranged, writes Colin Muncie.
Lee told the Bootiful Game “We will definitely be making a few changes for the game on Tuesday night, some due to work commitments but some due to the under par performances given on Saturday. In all honesty, to play the same opponent twice within 4 days -and with both being league fixtures -makes no sense at all. The only real positive is we can look at what went wrong at the weekend and try and fix it straight away against the same side! Like I mentioned after Saturdays game, we were nowhere near the standards we have set ourselves and were outplayed and out battled for the majority of the game”.
“There were no complaints on my part with the result of the game and it certainly wasn’t a case of underestimating them or showing a lack of respect” Lee insisted.” We never have- and never will -do that as we fully appreciate how difficult this league can be and how, on any given day, anyone could beat any other side. I and the players discussed at length after the game how the performance was unacceptable, some home truths were spoken and how we need to change things immediately”.
“Hopefully we’ll see a positive response on Tuesday night- but we know how good EYC can be so it’s going to be extremely hard work”.
