Grimsby Borough, who narrowly missed out on promotion to the NCEL Premier Division courtesy of a 2-3 defeat to Eccleshill United last season, had to settle for a 0-0 draw on the opening day against fellow a play-off team last season Shirebrook Town.
In front of a crowd of 98, neither side could really get going and lacked the killer instinct in the final third of the pitch to really trouble any of the teams goalkeepers. Grimsby in their next game face FC Bolsover, who you could say didn’t enjoy the best of seasons last year with the side finishing 20th one point above the relegation zone.
Their season didn’t get off to a good start either, they lost 0-7 to Hallam. In the previous meetings between the two sides, Grimsby got the better of Bolsover in both games, winning 2-5 in the away fixture and in the reverse fixture at home, Borough came out on top 7-1.
Grimsby Borough joint manager Nathan Collins is ‘looking forward’ to the game and also thinks “after a frustrating opening day result, and even though a lot of our build up play was good we have to be more ruthless in the last third if we are going to have a successful season.”
I’m sure it will be a fascinating game down at Bradley to see who can come out on top!
