Athersley have lost couple of key men to “ridiculous offers” ahead of FA Cup tie

Athersley Recreation face Maltby Main in the FA Cup this weekend. Both teams compete in the NCEL and had differing seasons last year, Athersley finished 17th while Maltby finished 5th, writes Mitchell Radford.
Both teams had different results in their opening games too, Maltby beating Harrogate Railway 2-0, and Athersley lost to Liversedge 1-3.
Athersley manager Luke Potter is looking for the decision making of his players to be ‘improved’, “ We are looking forward to the game you can’t beat FA cup days at any level. We are going into the game massive underdogs.
“I expect Maltby to be challenging and have also made some very good signings. But we will go there with confidence just need to improve our decision making all over the pitch especially in the final third.
“It has been a bit of a weird week as we’ve lost a couple of players with Brad Kilner and Jimmy Eyles signing for Retford (United) in the Central Midlands League, we just couldn’t compete financially and I can’t fault the lads, the offers were ridiculous and also Danny South will be joining Belper Town.”
